I help run an IRC network along with some friends. We needed a way to track user counts and to graph trends in our userbase. Using a homemade C application linked with the rrdtool library, we can generate graphs of our entire network, and every server on the network. This helps us spot possible virus attacks when the numbers don't match trends.
